On my previous post, I asked a question, that I know will confuse a lot of readers. But the truth is, a wrong information about our Lord Jesus Christ and our Christain Faith has been passed around the globe from time memorial.
However, I pray by the end of reading this article that the Holy Spirit, who is the spirit of truth will open our eyes to know the truth about who the Lily of the Valleys truly is.
WHO DO THE CHRISTAIN SCHOLARS BELIEVE TO BE THE LILY OF THE VALLEYS?
We have been told in time memorial, both in songs, Christian books and articles that Jesus Christ is the Lily of the Valleys. Well, I'm here to tell you, that it isn't true.
According to the book of Song of Solomon which mostly mentioned the Lily of the valleys; Christian scholars said, that Jesus is the one speaking to his beloved hereby referring Himself as the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valleys. That is not true, Let me take you back to part 1, please get your Bibles.
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE LILY OF THE VALLEYS:
According to (Song of Solomon 2:1-3), verse 1 of this scripture says, (the woman declares) "I am the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the valleys" then the man affirms in verse 2 "Like a Lily among thorns is my darling among the young women ." Then in verse 3, the woman responds "Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men".
The book of song of Solomon is a symbolic Bible scripture that talks about the Bride and her Bride Groom. The Bride is the woman while the Bride groom is the man and beloved of the Bride. This scripture describes the Love Jesus Christ has for the Church, the Church also is referred to as the Bride of Christ. So, from this scripture in Verse one, the woman, who is the Bride or the Church declares her beauty and purity to her beloved saying "I am the Rose of Sharon, The Lily of the Valleys". And in verse two, the man who is Jesus Christ, the Bride groom and lover of the woman affirms her beauty as He agrees that her beauty really stood out in the crowd which means that her beauty is Unquestionable as He says, "Like a Lily among thorns is my darling among the young women."
Then in verse three, the woman who is the Bride or the Church responds in admiration of the man (Jesus Christ) who is the Bride Groom and her Lover, saying, "Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men."
Thus, this three verses we just analyzed, tells us that Jesus Christ is not the Lily of the Valleys. The woman in the scripture, who symbolizes the people Jesus Christ died to save are the Lilies. You and I, are God's Beauty and splendour which is what the Lily of the valleys and the Rose of Sharon signifies. Let's take another scripture.
Another Bible Passage that used Lily as a symbolic of God's Children is Hosea 14:5-6.
Hosea 14:5-6
[5]I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, And lengthen his roots like Lebanon.
[6]His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon.
In verse 5, God compared Himself as a dew while He compared Israel as a Lily.
Here, Lily was used to refer to the ancient Israelites who are God's Children, and now, we the Gentiles, through the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Great sacrifice and Gift to the world, have been joined together to this Israelites which means, we are the new God's children saved by Grace. We are the Lily, God was referring to in Hosea 14:5.
If God was and is the Lily, He would have referred Himself as that, why would He not call Himself that, could anyone stop Him from giving Himself such a beautiful name? But He choose to call us that, that is Love, if you ask me. Let's look at another scripture again.
Luke 12:27
[27]Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Jesus compared Solomon to a Lily, do you see that? Solomon is God's Child, so Jesus thus compared him to a Lily to illustrate His point to the people who were filled with so much doubt and worry. According to the full scripture, you can take your time to read as you will understand that Jesus was trying to make them see that our Heavenly Father really loves and care about us, that God in his infinite might will go any length to fend for His Children, hence, why He used the Lily again as a symbolic of God's Children and also used Solomon to compare to the "Lilies".
The lilies here was used in plural form meaning all God's Children, and then, Solomon was used to compare to these God's Children, in other words, Jesus was saying that with all the Beauty and glory God gave to Solomon during Solomon's time cannot be compared to how much God loves and carters for His Lilies, that is, all His Children then and now.
However, Jesus was encouraging every God's child watching and listening to Him then and to those reading this scripture and this article now, that we shouldn't worry for anything at all, that God, got us covered in His will and plans for our lives.
In this scripture, Luke 12:27, Jesus never called or referred Himself as The Lily, or referred to our Father (God) as the Lily, rather he compared Solomon to the Lily which means He compared a fellow lily to all the Lilies in the world. Jesus was Comparing what God did for Solomon as little to what God has planned for and is still doing for all his Children who call and depend on Him for anything and everything.
In summary, in Luke 12:27, Jesus Christ used the "Lilies" to represent the simplicity, purity, and effortless glory of the Saints.
So, people, the popular use of Jesus as the "Lily of the valleys" is indeed a mistake from the religious fanatics of our world.
According to Apostle Paul in Ist Corinthians 13, which says:
1 Corinthians 13:11
[11]When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
I believe that, with this truth from the Holy Spirit, that our minds has been enlightened to understand who we are as Christians and who our Saviour Jesus Christ isn't. We are not babies that needs to be controlled by our parents but now we are adults, meaning we can feed ourselves without waiting for our parents to do that for us. You have heard the truth, run with it , and if you are still not sure, ask the Holy Spirit, He will educate you.
Not everything we heard or were told in church was accurate.
Though Jesus Christ is often called the Lily of the Valleys in songs, Christian books and articles, this is not the name Jesus Christ uses or calls Himself in the scripture.
We often desire for Jesus to be something other than who He says He is. We want to make him easier to accept. We want the kind and gentle Jesus who loves children and called them to Himself, but disregard the one who shunned evil, the one who turned over the money changers tables and driving out those buying and selling in His Father's house.
Whenever we portray Jesus Christ out to be something He is not, we have created for ourselves a false god. Let's endeavor to always ask the Holy Spirit to teach us God's truth, so we are not deceived in this deceitful world we live in.
1 Corinthians 3:16
[16]Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Finally, "The Lilies of the Valleys" is a symbolism, or a metaphorical statement of the true beauty, splendour and purity of every true child of God.
Every God's child is hence referred to as the Bride of Jesus Christ or The Church (not the church building), while Jesus Christ is our Bride groom as seen in Song of Solomon.
Every true believer or child of God is God's Elect, according to the scriptures in
2 Timothy 2 and Romans 8
2 Timothy 2:10:
[10]Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Romans 8:33
[33]Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Let's not be deceived, we are created to showcase the beauty and sweet fragrance of God's true glory. The Rose of Sharon is also a symbolism of the Beauty and splendour God has bestowed in us His children. God is an excellent creator of mankind, and He has made us in His excellent beauty and splendour.
However, I beckon on every true sons and daughters of the most high God, created with the beauty and splendour of the most high God, to accept who God has called us to be "The Lily of the Valleys and The Rose of Sharon," run with this truth.
We are created to be beautiful in all our ways thus fulfilling God's primary desire for us. God's purpose for us, is to spread this beauty and splendour all over the world and in accomplishing this, God is honored and glorified by our obedience.
God's children, wherever you are, let your beauty so shine, our beauty is the "Fruit of the spirit". The Holy Spirit is the power, our Father released unto us on the day of Pentecost, to enable us live out this beauty, money can't buy, only the Holy Spirit can give it to you. Don't let the world system tell you otherwise. Go out there and let your beauty shine forth to the glory of God in Jesus name, Amen!
1 Peter 3:3-4
[3]Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—
[4]rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
Matthew 5:16
[16]Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Galatians 5:22-26
[22]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
[23]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
[24]And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
[25]If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
